Arrival

First Day Procedures

The school day begins promptly at 7:55.  A bell will ring and students will line up with their class near the cone marked with their teacher's name.  Your child's teacher will come out to greet the students and bring them into the building.

We understand that the arrival process may look different the first few days of school depending upon your child's level of comfort in separating from family.  Below are our guidelines for helping you through the arrival process the first week of school:

  • Day 1 - Adult(s) may accompany child into classroom for a period of time not to exceed 10 minutes.  After 10 minutes, the adults will help you to say goodbye to your child and politely ask you to be on your way.  Please remember the longer it takes you to separate from your child, the longer it will take them to recover and begin forming relationships with other children.

  • Day 2-3 - Adult(s) may accompany child to the hallway in front of the classroom give a quick hug, and be on their way.

  • Day 4 & Beyond - Adult(s) may accompany their child to the class line outside of the building.  When the teacher arrives to bring the class into the building, your child should be ready to enter the building independently.  This will become easier with time, especially if you remain consistent in saying goodbye quickly in the line.

We ask you to follow these guidelines because this morning arrival time is an important part of developing your child's self-help and social skills.  We understand that your child may have some difficulty locating his/her hook, opening their backpack, opening their coat, etc.  These are things that we will be working on with your child.  They will be very proud of their accomplishments once they can do these things independently.  Please encourage your child's development by following these guidelines.
